Former mayor and long-time community leader Ross McDougall stopped by 34 Wallbridge-Loyalist Road this morning for a tour of the building site of HSHPE’s Animal Care and Community Education Centre.

After the tour, McDougall presented a cheque on behalf McDougall Insurance Brokers for $35,000 to support the building.

In presenting their gift, McDougall said that even though he and many of his colleagues at McDougall Insurance own cats and dogs, the decision to support the new HSHPE Centre was about more than their personal love of animals.

“This is about community building,” said McDougall. “The new Centre will enhance our quality of life in the entire region. It speaks to the greater good, not just of animals, but of all of us and McDougall Insurance is pleased to support those efforts”

Staff and animals are expected to move into the new Centre in June 2022 from HSHPE’s current location at 527 Avonlough Road in Belleville.

Capital Campaign Chair Greg Sudds welcomed McDougall Insurance’s support. Ross and his colleagues are always a force for good in this community and their decision to donate to the HSHPE’s new shelter is a welcome and valuable endorsement of the project.

Sudds added that now is the time for all community members to lend their support to the build by visiting ItTakesHeart.ca or contacting Campaign Manager J-C D’Amours at 613-813-1917.
